Using bacteriophages in combination with germinants to target Bacillus anthracis spores (2014 – Present)

Using an integrated approach of germinants combined with lytic bacteriophages, we hypothesised that spore counts within soil can be lowered, as a method of potentially decontaminating anthrax spore contaminated soils, without the use of toxic biocides and disinfectants.

This was tested further to determine if phages could survive both a) prolonged time in germinant solutions and b) aerosol delivery (provided by collaborators at Scotts Safety).
